The Social Balance
Much ado has been made of late on the castaway Corktown e-list about the need to maintain a proper social balance in the Duchy.
We're intrigued by the concept, particularly since its proponents have so far been curiously silent when asked to describe what this balance might look like in practice.
And so, faithful readers, we put the question to you - cogitate carefully, as we don't want the carefully cultivated cultural fabric of our little Duchy to be torn asunder by the wrong "types":
What would define a proper social balance in the Duchy? Age? Looks? Wealth? The ability to chew gum and walk at the same time? How much newcomers are "like us?"

#1 Cindy Wilkey : Balance in the community
To me balance in a neighbourhood starts with a housing range that supports a mixed-income, mixed age, mixed family type and mixed tenure (eg. both ownership, rental and co-ops which offer a kind of hybrid)kind of community. I would hope that might also lead to a community that is ethnically and racially diverse and which attracts people in all kind of income and work circumstances. Balance also means providing an environment of respect and support for vulnerable members of the community who have supportive housing needs or who need other community-based supports.
#2 The One WIth No Name : I think the folks that gave
I think the folks that gave poor old Mrs Youngs house an extreme makeover without her permission a few years back might be the appropriate group to discribe what a "proper" social balance would look like. Aesthetics, I think, are thier specialty. I think one of them even has a Phd.
